Ben’s the Best!

Talented young furniture maker, Ben Field has made it four years in a row for Warwickshire College winning another C&G Medal for Excellence for the college.

The 17-year-old from Stratford-upon-Avon, has been awarded the prestigious C&G Medal for Excellence in Furniture Making, following in the footsteps of last year’s winner, Moi Nally , who also represented Warwickshire College at the awards in 2012.

Ben said he was pleased to be honoured with the award, and added: “My parents are really pleased.”

Ben, who also works for Le Grenier Antiques in Wootton Wawen, will be travelling down to the London awards ceremony in June with tutor Jamie Ward.

Jamie said: “This is the fourth year in a row that we have won this medal.  The medals recognise students who have not only gone above and beyond, but who have also overcome diversity.

“I don’t think it is unfair to say that Ben struggled at school but he’s really flourished since he’s been here with us.  He’s an exceptional young furniture-maker, he’s gone away and taught himself complicated techniques in furniture restoration, such as boulle work, that we do not cover on the course here and he’s brought back that knowledge and helped other students with their work too.

“We’re really proud of Ben’s achievements, he’s also been taken under the wing of well-regarded furniture workshop, Sean Feeney – he has a great future ahead of him.”
