Aiden FletcherAiden Fletcher

BTEC Level 3 in Forensic Science

Aiden originally wanted to do A Levels, but didn’t do as well in his GCSEs as expected. Looking at his options, he saw the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Forensic Science on offer at Warwickshire College, and decided that it looked interesting. He did exceptionally well in his first year, gaining a Distinction * Distinction.

“I enjoy the structure of the course, with four days at the college with a day off for independent study – you get more freedom than with school, and it’s good being assessed throughout the year.

“I’m really happy with the results from my first year – it was more than I expected so I’m really looking forward to my second year. I’m still considering what to do when I finish the course – I’m investigating possible joining the British Military Police, or continuing my studies at university.”

Sophie Adair

BTEC Level 3 in Forensic Science

After her GCSEs, Sophie wasn’t sure what she wanted to do, so took a few months out. She then started a course in childcare, before deciding it wasn’t for her and transferring to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Forensic Science. She has since gone from strength to strength, resulting in a triple Distinction*.

She first got the Forensic Science bug at an Open Day where she got the flavour of what the course was about and says “I really, really enjoyed the course and I’m so happy with what I’ve achieved. The vocational route was right for me, and it was great that the course could be tailored to what I wanted to specialise in, by choosing different modules. The course is assessed throughout the years, by assessed practicals and coursework, so you have to keep working hard.

“I’m now going to Coventry University to study Forensic Investigation, and eventually I want to be a Scenes of Crime Officer or an Accident Investigation Officer.”

Sophie’s fantastic results have meant that the University have awarded her an Academic Excellence Scholarship and given her a place on their Global Leaders Programme (GLP) which aims to prepare the University¹s postgraduate students and high achieving undergraduate students to become the leaders of tomorrow in their chosen fields and to further develop a global mindset.
