What will I study?

This Course is intended for people at both beginners and intermediate advanced levels. Maximum of 7 students – each student will have access to a British made lathe, their own set of tools and all other necessary equipment, in a dedicated woodturning room, with full dust extraction to every lathe

What modules are covered?

Subjects you will study:

Beginners -

Either between centres parallel grain turning techniques for those with little turning experience or cross grain bowl turning techniques for those competent at parallel grain turning

  • Use and sharpening of turning tools
  • Create a range of profiles
  • Exercises using techniques to produce a finished item
  • Safe working practices

Intermediate/Advanced -

  • Hollow form turning
  • Sources of inspiration for designing work
  • Various embellishment techniques to enhance turned work e.g. cutting, piecing, carving, colouring etc
  • Exercises using techniques to produce a finished item
  • Safe working practices

Ongoing practical observation

Minimum qualifications:

A level of competency at woodturning
