What will I study?

This course is a great introduction to the art of woodturning for those who are beginners or for those competent at turning who are looking for inspiration with regard to design and creative expression within their work. Maximum of 7 students – each student will have access to a British made lathe, their own set of tools and all other necessary equipment, in a dedicated woodturning room, with full dust extraction to every lathe.

What modules are covered?

PROGRAMME CONTENT:

Beginners :

Either between centres parallel grain turning techniques for those with little turning experience or cross grain bowl turning techniques for those competent at parallel grain turning.

  • Use and sharpening of turning tools
  • Create a range of profiles
  • Exercises using techniques to produce a finished item
  • Safe working practices

Intermediate/Advanced:

  • Hollow form turning
  • Sources of inspiration for designing work
  • Various embellishment techniques to enhance turned work e.g. cutting, piecing, carving, colouring etc
  • Exercises using techniques to produce a finished item
  • Safe working practices

What qualifications will I get?

Can be studied at all levels

How will I be assessed?

Ongoing practical observation.
