The award was presented at the “Eye of the Beholder”
photographic exhibition launch, which showcased the work of Visual
Communication and Photography students at the college.
Ben Arnold, 16 from Kenilworth, is a first year Visual
Communication student and picked up the prize of CEWE vouchers for
his photograph of a room in an abandoned building in Spain. He
said, “I’ve always been interested in photography which is why I
chose this course. We were on a walk on holiday in Spain when we
came across the house, and I was inspired by the light in the room
so took the photo. It was a really nice surprise to win.”
Runners up in the competition were James Archer,
Stephanie Forrester and Rachel Wolstenholme.
The exhibition was sponsored by CEWE, the largest
digital imaging company in Europe, who have a local plant in
Warwick. Managing Director of CEWE UK, Duncan Midwood, presented
Ben with his prize. He said, “CEWE is absolutely delighted to be
sponsoring this exhibition. It’s fantastic to see so much talent in
the room - we love these events and are proud to support them. The
theme was ‘Eye of the beholder’ and the students have really
embraced that - the photographs show what can be achieved by
looking past the obvious.”
Irene Tsiampakou, Visual Communication course leader said,
“Congratulations to Ben for winning the best photo competition. We
chose his photo as the winner as it is of a dilapidated, decayed
place, but the light and contrast make it beautiful - he has a
great photographic eye.
“I hope as many local people as possible can visit the
exhibition to see how talented our students are.”
Jane Murray, Photography course leader said, “Well
done to all the students involved - putting on an exhibition is a
real professional challenge and they have produced some stunning
work. A big thank you must go to Duncan and CEWE for sponsoring the
event - it’s great to have the support of such a successful local
