What does the Olympics mean to you?
Whether it’s job opportunities, the chance to see a
particular sport or a glimpse of the opening ceremony, the Olympics
means something different to everyone.
We asked some Warwickshire College students and staff what it
means to them...

Tarah
AS levels
“I want to go and see the athletics and have already tried to
get tickets. The Olympics hasn’t been in the UK for a long time, so
it’s good that everyone is going to get to go.”
Curtis
Engineering
“I just want to see us win! It’s not about taking part for me –
it’s about winning! I won’t go – I’ll watch it at home.”
Tom
AS levels
“I want to go to the velodrome to see the cycling. I think it’s
good that it’s here. But I suppose I should get on and apply for my
tickets.”
Michael
Engineering
“I’m hopefully going to get tickets. I’d like to see the rowing
- we have been successful for the last decade or two, and maybe the
sailing. The British aren’t very fond of the Olympics it, and
we don’t have many very good participants, but 2008 in Beijing was
pretty good, so hopefully we’ll do even better this time.”
Blake
Metal fabrication and welding
“It’s good that it is coming to London. I’m hoping to get a
couple of tickets to something, but I don’t know what yet. I’d like
to see the diving and the 100 metres though.”
Taznim
A Levels and BTEC in Sport
“I would watch it on telly, but I wouldn’t go down to see it. I
think it’s pretty good that it’s in England – there will be a lot
of job opportunities.”
Akbar
Engineering
“I used to be an athlete, many years ago. I broke the national
record for shot-put when I was 15, so I’ll watch that. but I'm not
going to go.”
Radka &
Monika
ESOL
Monika: “I think it is interesting, and I will watch it on TV,
but I don’t have to go. I just want to watch my favourite sports –
I like the sprint, the long jump and the high jump, and the shot
put.”
Radka: “I will watch it at home – it’s more comfortable that
way. I don’t have to be in the stadium!”
Shaista
College Administrator
"I’m thinking about applying for the tickets. I would really
like to see the opening and closing ceremonies – I am not really
bothered about the sports, although I’d be quite interested in the
athletics."
Hannah
FE Sport Coordinator
"I have always been very sporty and have show jumped for
England. I really think we should promote the Olympics. The values
that the Games put across are also very important, and they don’t
just relate to sport – they are about how people relate to each
other."
