Rugby nursery is 'outstanding'

"A relaxed but stimulating environment" in which "children thrive" was how Ofsted described the children’s nursery at Warwickshire College’s Rugby centre, rating it 'outstanding'.

The nursery, which opened in October 2010 with purpose built facilities, received an unannounced inspection in June.

Nursery manager Paula Scott said: “The inspector felt the nursery was extremely safety conscious and secure, she also commented on the fact that the children clearly felt safe in the setting.”

As well as being impressed by the nursery’s attitude to safeguarding and the procedures in place to ensure children’s safety, the inspector praised the way the team works together, and the knowledge staff demonstrated.

"Every child is seen as unique, valued and included"

The report reads: "Children thrive in this inviting, relaxed but stimulating environment where every child is seen as unique, valued and included.

"They are confident, enthusiastic and actively involved in an extensive variety of stimulating activities available to them. This results in them making excellent progress in their development and learning.

"Staff have a lovely rapport with the children and demonstrate a great knowledge of how children learn, which enables them to effectively meet the individual needs of each child."

The nursery currently has 64 babies and toddlers enrolled, a mixture of students’ children, staff’s children and children from outside the college.

Mrs Scott said: “We have a few spaces but we are looking very busy for September and will have a waiting list.”

Facilities include an outdoor area with a mixture of rubber playground surface and grass, a play boat, balance beam and rickety bridge, as well as provision for water activities. There are also vegetable and fruit patches and a covered area.

Inside are rooms for different age groups and a separate sensory room for light and sound and quiet time. An on-site cook prepares fresh food for the children every day.
