Pershore students celebrate
More than 500 students gathered at Pershore Abbey for
Pershore College’s annual prize giving ceremony.
Students from the centre - who studied courses including motor
vehicle, horticulture, food production and animal welfare – were
presented with their certificates and awards by Director of
Wildlife at West Midlands Safari Park, Bob Lawrence.

The ceremony included a presentation of the money which students
raised for local charities through the college’s RAG activities,
given to two local charities, Pershore Paddlers and Help for
Heroes.
Simon Stringer received the award for Best HE Animal Welfare
student. He said: “The HNC course helped me to develop skills which
will be very important in my future career.
"It has given me a lot of confidence and equipped me with the
knowledge to pursue what I think is a really worthwhile cause – I
am now going on to the University of Plymouth to do a degree in
wildlife conservation.
“I was really pleased to have been awarded a prize – I worked
really hard and it is nice that this has been recognised.”
The ceremony also saw the presentation of the very first Plant
Heritage prize to promote greater awareness about cultivated plant
conservation in the land-based educational sector.
The winner was David Linwood, from the National Diploma in
Horticulture course.
He said: “I did a lot of work in the plant collections house
with some unusual plants – some of which are difficult to grow,
which I found really rewarding. It is very important that we
maintain the older varieties of plant as these are the starting
blocks for new species.”
