The new Rugby Centre is here
Warwickshire College was delighted to welcome its very
first public visitors to its brand new Rugby Centre at a special
preview event on Thursday 8 July.
Around a thousand people turned up on the night, taking tours of
the building and checking out the learning and community
facilities.
Visitors were delighted to be able to get a first look round the
building, which was completed after just 17 months of building work
on site. Students helped visitors to imagine what the centre will
be like in full swing, demonstrating theatrical make-up, hair and
beauty; performing songs from ‘Hairspray’; demonstrating football
skills on the astroturf; showcasing art work in the studio and
demonstrating the10-tonne gantry crane and working models in the
engineering department. Student services were also on hand to help
with enquiries, from courses to funding and transport.
Apprentice, Avi Gohil, who will be studying at the centre next
year, said "it looks really modern and will definitely encourage
people to want to work and get a good education. I am looking
forward to using all the facilities at the centre - they will
benefit everybody."

Principal, Ioan Morgan, said “we are delighted with the new
Rugby Centre, which has been long-anticipated by staff and students
alike. The high quality facilities have been designed to reflect
the professional world of the workplace and show just how highly we
value our learners and their learning environment. We owe huge
thanks to everyone who has worked in partnership with us to make
this project a reality.”
As well as an exciting range of courses – from construction
to performing arts – the centre will have many facilities
open to the community, including hair and beauty salons, gym and
sports facilities, nursery, restaurant and more.
Facilities at the new centre include a fantastic sky-lit art
studio, performance spaces, a four-court sports hall, all weather
playing pitch and facilities for a wide range of courses including
IT, photography, construction and languages. It also houses the
£6.3m Power Academy, funded by Advantage West Midlands, to train
people in the skills needed for the power generation industry, a
boost to local employment and training opportunities.
The college have just got the keys to the centre and will be
busy over the coming months getting the centre furnished with all
the equipment needed for its learners. Courses will transfer from
the old centre to the new between September and December 2010.
If you are interested in studying at Rugby, you can still apply
for courses starting from September. For more information, call
