Guild of Bricklayers comes to Rugby
The regional final of the prestigious Guild of Bricklayers
competition took place at Warwickshire College’s new Rugby Centre
on Friday 15 April 2011.
Colleges from across the West Midlands took part in the
competition, including four entrants from the college itself.
Bradley Simpson and Daniel Fitzpatrick competed in the senior
competition, with Bradley taking third place, and Lee Bradley and
Kane Reilly competed in the juniors with Lee coming fourth.

Competitors had five hours to complete a piece of feature
brickwork and were judged on speed, accuracy and overall
appearance. Junior competitors had to produce an arch, while senior
competitors built a feature panel.
Senior Curriculum Leader, Mick Clarke, said: “This is our first
year at the new Rugby centre and we are delighted to mark the
occasion by hosting this prestigious competition. The competition
really tested the students’ abilities and we are proud that our
students made their mark in both junior and senior
competitions.
“It is very important for the future of the industry that we
continue to train young people with construction skills. There will
always be good prospects for skilled labourers, especially so now
that the industry is starting to pull out of the recession.”
Warwickshire College offers courses in all aspects of construction including brickwork,
carpentry, joinery, plumbing, electrical and more, across its
centres in Rugby, Leamington and Moreton Morrell.
