Graduation dreams
Leamington town centre was awash with graduands as many of
the 300 students who achieved higher education qualifications at
college this year received their awards.
The ceremony took place at the Royal Spa Centre. Students were
presented with their qualifications by Principal and CEO, Mariane
Cavalli and guest speaker, entrepreneur Deborah Leary.

Emma Kent graduated with a BSc (Hons) Sports Science (Equine and
Human) which she studied at Moreton Morrell. She also did a
placement year at a riding school and livery yard, and at World
Horse Welfare in Somerset.
Emma said: “It gave me a real sense of achievement to be
presented with the degree I have worked so hard for. I enjoyed
meeting up with all my friends from my course.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my degree – I stayed at Moreton Morrell as
a residential student and the centre had a real community feel. I
especially enjoyed being able to bring my own horse, Sam, to the
college and have him stabled just a few minutes away from where I
was staying.
“I chose the course because of the facilities and because I
could study equine and human sports science, which I felt would
give me more options in terms of a career. The staff were friendly
and incredibly helpful, especially when it came to writing my
dissertation. The course prepared me really well for the masters
degree I am now doing.

“I am really pleased that I did a placement year, as it gave me
a year’s industry experience and helped to show me the type of
career I was interested in pursuing. It also enabled me to develop
workplace skills such as time management and customer service. I
have learned to organise my workload more effectively which now
enables me to balance part-time work with part-time study.”
Emma is now doing a masters degree at Nottingham Trent
University and is interested in pursuing a career in rehabilitation
of injuries, or in education.
Guest of Honour and speaker, Deborah Leary, OBE, is one of
Britain’s top women entrepreneurs and Founder and CEO of award
winning company Forensic Pathways Ltd.
Deborah said to students: “I am really honoured to be standing
before the great leaders, artists, business people and parents of
the future. Whether you choose to work as an entrepreneur or in
industry, you have got to be passionate about what you do. As you
go out into the world you will create waves and ripples that will
have the power to create immense change and to do immense good. It
won’t always be an easy journey, but it will be an exciting
one.”
Students received a range of qualifications including foundation
degrees, HNDs, HNCs and honours degrees, in subjects as diverse as
mechnical engineering, teaching, digital film and video, early
years and events management.
