Heptathlete storms to victory
Imogen Green studies sport performance and excellence at
the Henley-in-Arden centre. She produced an outstanding set of
performances to be crowned senior girls heptathlon champion at the
English Schools Combined Events Championships in Exeter.
A member of the Stratford Athletic Club, Imogen represented the
Warwickshire senior girls team. Imogen flew out of the blocks for
the 100m hurdles, setting a new personal best of 15.11 seconds,
although there was a tail wind of +2.6.

The high jump followed, with a height of 1.54m in very windy
conditions and then came the shot with a distance of over nine
metres. The day was rounded off with another personal best in the
200m of 25.77 seconds, leaving Imogen in third place, 125 points
behind the leader.
With day two came the wind and rain. Against a strong
headwind, Imogen recorded the best jump of the day of 5.26m
which closed the gap from first to third to only 17 points. With a
javelin throw of 30.29m, Imogen edged into the lead, leaving her
needing a strong 800m to hold on to the lead.
Imogen battled against the wind to do just that, which
resulted in her winning the Senior Girls Heptathlon with a points
total of 4,479. She is the first senior girl representing
Warwickshire to record such a win and her points haul also
contributed to a second place for the Warwickshire senior girls
team.
At the end of the competition, when asked how she felt, Green
said: "I can't put into words how I'm feeling right now.”
