Questions
You might find your questions answered
below.
How many weeks do I have to pay for?
You will need to pay for accommodation from the start date until
the end date of your course, including holiday periods. This
means that you can stay over the holidays and do not have to empty
your room, an added benefit that many colleges and universities
don't offer.
Will I be eligible for financial support?
See Residential bursaries for more information.
What if I want to move out of halls mid-way through a
term?
Please be aware that if notice is given to leave accomodation at
any point during the academic year after the intial six days of the
start of the Licence to occupy, the student will still be liable
for the full cost of the accomodation for the whole academic
year.
Will I get my first choice of accommodation?
We will do our best to accommodate your request. However, the
allocation of accommodation is dependent on whether you are under
eighteen. If you are applying for over eighteen accommodation, we
will try hard to place you in a catered or self-catering
room as requested. We will contact you if we are unable to meet
your requests. You may be able to move to another block during the
year if a room becomes available.
Students with an established need (e.g. students with a
disability) will be given priority on certain adapted rooms. Any
specific needs will need to be noted on the application form in
order for these to be considered during the allocation process.
What happens after my first year?
First year students have priority over second year students so
you may be required to find a room off-campus. Our Accommodation
Co-ordinators can provide a list of local properties for rent.
What will I need to bring?
The Accommodation Department will contact you in the summer with
this information.
Who cleans my room?
You do! We provide vacuum cleaners for students to clean their
bedrooms. Our housekeeping staff clean kitchen and lounge areas,
although they will not do your washing up.
How do I wash, dry and iron my clothes?
Self-service laundry facilities are available on-site for you to
do your own washing and drying. Ironing boards are available in the
laundry or on loan from accommodation staff.
I'm vegetarian. Does the refectory have suitable
food?
Our chefs focus on healthy-eating and vegetarian options are
always available. We welcome students to discuss their catering
needs with our staff. If you have specific food requirements,
please let us know on your application form.
I would like to bring a TV. Do I need to buy my own
license?
Yes! If you bring a TV, it is your responsibility to buy a TV
License from the TV Licensing Authority. Some of our residencies
have aerial points; others do not. We are not able to guarantee if
you will receive a signal within blocks with no aerial point.
