Aubrey Allen
Aubrey Allen is a time served and well respected butcher
throughout Warwickshire and beyond. Founded in 1933, the company
built its reputation on the quality of its beef, sourcing only the
finest Highland cattle, some of it coming from Ballindaloch Castle
itself, home to the oldest Angus herd of all.
Aubrey Allen is a particular favourite of chefs and supplies
many of the UK’s top restaurants. In fact, Rick Stein described
them as “one of his food heroes” and the famous Roux Brothers have
said the quality of Aubrey Allen's beef is "unrivalled".
Along the way, the company has won numerous awards, most
recently 'Winner of the Meat Buyer of the Year for Ethical Sourcing
and Animal Welfare’.
The business comprises a retail outlet, a restaurant, an event
catering side and a wholesale operation. It also has an e-commerce
website. With so many different aspects to the company, the 120
staff they employ have a wide range of different skills, from
butchers and shop staff to chefs and administrators, and they are
keen to keep their skills and competencies current.
Aubrey Allen has been working with Warwickshire College for over
18 months. Following an appraisal of their business objectives and
desired outcomes, the College recommended that they put relevant
staff through a Customer Service NVQ at level 2 and an Office
Administration NVQ also at level 2.
The training is now completed and Russell Allen, Director said:
“It is very nice that the staff have been recognised for their
achievements. We needed to build on their customer service skills
and the course has definitely done that.
The Administration NVQ has also helped with our office
administration and now everyone is working to the same system, so
there have been benefits all round. Warwickshire College provided a
very professional and supportive service and we’ll certainly be
putting more of our people through them to hone their
skills.”
