Power industry academy
The power industry is facing significant issues in the
future as the combined effect of the increases in energy demand and
reduction in capacity points to a shortfall in supply - the so
called ‘energy gap’.
As part of the new campus at Rugby with £6.2m worth of support
from Advantage West Midlands (AWM) we have built a unique facility
which will enable us to improve our support for the training needs
of the power generation / manufacturing industry.
Equipment currently being installed consists
of:
- A gantry crane with 10 metric tonne capacity.
Remote controlled with the latest technology
- Full range of milling machines
- Full range of lathes
- Non destruct testing (NDT) equipment which
will give Warwickshire College the potential to become only the
second ECITB accredited training centre.
Working with our business partners we will
also be equipping the academy with the key equipment which would
only normally be available for training and skills development when
a power generation facility is taken ‘off-line’.
By providing this equipment in a real life
environment employees can be trained to meet the skills levels they
require without expensive downtime.
