Engaging with lean principles
One company explains how Warwickshire College developed
a specialised course to meet their requirements, enabling them to
apply lean principles to their business.
Bunzl Retail Supplies is part of FTSE 100 company, Bunzl PLC,
which supplies a wide range of consumable products to the retail
industry.
Quality Technicians from the company are completing a BTEC in
Lean Principles with Warwickshire College, through a mixture of
on-site delivery and remote learning.

Lean Principles enable businesses to operate with maximum
efficiency, removing wasted time and resources from office and
manufacturing processes.
Bunzl are now looking to progress to the next level of training
and roll it out to other divisions of the company.
HR Manager, Susan Horwood, explained: “At Bunzl, we seek to provide
learning and development opportunities for all our staff.
"The challenge with Quality Technicians was finding suitable
training for such a specialised role. Warwickshire College was
fantastic at developing a course which matched our requirements,
working closely with us to ensure it delivered what we needed to
achieve.
“Lean is very important to the business – it is essential for us
to be a low-cost operation and we are constantly evaluating what we
do.
"The training course has enabled our team to focus on day to day
waste management, taking a more proactive approach when continuous
improvement opportunities are identified. This training has
invested in Bunzl's most valuable asset - our employees.”
