Aston Martin Apprenticeships
Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd had taken on apprentices
occasionally over the years, but recently recruited 11 engineering
apprentices in one go.
Warwickshire College and Aston Martin have a relationship going
back 15 years, and this helped with the trust and confidence needed
for the college to handle the recruitment process.
Steve Robinson, Human Resources Director, said: “We had
identified the fact there was a shortage in certain skills – trim
development and paint – so having seen the specialist need we had
to recruit.
“We chose apprenticeships because they are recognised routes to
developing skills. Aston Martin is committed to seeking
talented individuals with passion and energy to achieve the highest
standards in everything they do; we are delighted to welcome our
new intake at the start of their careers”

A Business Recruitment Manager from the college worked with
Aston Martin to recruit the apprentices at very little cost,
including arranging the placing of the advertisement on the
National Apprenticeship Service website.
There were more than 120 applicants, plus some internal applicants,
so Warwickshire College screened them for suitability and sent
those who met the criteria through to Aston Martin.
The candidates were narrowed down to 25 participating in
assessment sessions, with the successful 11 starting in September
2011. Most of the apprentices are aged 16-19 with three over 19.
They spend the first year of the four-year apprenticeship full-time
at college and will then work for the firm at Gaydon in
Warwickshire.
