Sport projects
Sport courses are offered at Henley-in-Arden and
Rugby.
Sports programmes
These courses are designed for people who want to work as a
gym instructor or personal trainer - or with elite
performers in the UK sports and leisure industry. They can help
develop business skills to manage leisure centres, sport stadiums
and facilities.
Sports coaching is a rewarding career - coaches work with people
taking part in sport and exercise, helping them to develop their
skills. Coaches can work with professionals or amateurs,
individuals or teams.
We adopt a holistic approach to the development of our athletes,
aiming to develop life skills like self control, respect and
leadership.
A combination of excellent facilities and strong tutor support
has attracted some elite performers to study with us. Our
sport science courses focus on an understanding of the human body
as a means to maximum performance through proper exercise and
training.
We have links with clubs in the local area and have current and
past students playing at youth and senior level. Our links with
sport and leisure providers in the region mean we can call on
outside employers and coaches.
Working in partnership with local schools
Level 3 students work towards the Sports Leadership Award
accredited by Sports Leaders UK in conjunction with local primary
schools. The students teach primary aged children different skills
supporting their PE National Curriculum from Henley Primary and St
Mary’s Primary in Henley-in-Arden. This includes mini games,
athletics and movement/dance.
In June, students come together to organise a large school
sports day event and enjoy the experience of leading, whilst also
learning the skills of event management as part of their main
programme.
Citizenship
Our sports students are very active in taking part in events
which help support the local community and charity.
Sports Relief in March saw over 100 students turn out to walk or
run one mile round the grounds of Henley-in-Arden. The
students raised £150 through donations and sponsorship by taking
part. Sean Bowden, a successful cross country runner was dressed by
the beauty students as a hare, to be the lead runner for everyone
to chase!
In 2009, students from the Sport, Beauty and Fashion department
got together to host the biannual Fashion Show for Comic Relief and
Marie Curie Cancer Care. This was an amazing night with students
from fashion using the sports students as models to display their
clothing collections. Sports students also entertained the audience
with a dance routine, and money was raised through a charity
tombola. In total, Henley-in-Arden Centre raised over £3,000.
In May 2007 students volunteered as course marshals and
therapists to 350 world class athletes in the European Race Walking
Cup in Victoria Park, Leamington.
