Apprenticeships
You can study on a hairdressing apprenticeship at
our Leamington and Rugby centres.
To become a hairdresser you need to be a good
communicator, diplomatic and sympathetic as well as a good
listener. You need to be creative, be good with your hands and have
lots of energy.
A qualified hairdresser with further training can go into
teaching or into theatre, film or television. The UK hairdressing
industry is regarded as the best in the world - so there's lots of
opportunity to travel internationally.
As an apprentice you will need to be employed by a hairdressing
salon and come to college one day a
week. We are
sometimes aware of salon vacancies and can help you to apply for
work.
The day is split into theoretical and practical sessions
covering all aspects of hairdressing.
Training will also be carried out in your workplace to make
sure you progress in all aspects of the qualification. You will
need a hairdressing equipment kit but this is available to buy
through the college.
You will be working towards an NVQ level 2 diploma. The course
is two years with the opportunity to move on to the NVQ level
3 diploma - Advanced Apprenticeship. Assessments for the practical
requirement of the course will be completed in the college salon
and also at your work.
Progress reviews will take place every 10 weeks at your
workplace - in partnership with the salon manager.
