Countryside management
With more than 400 hectares of woodland, our
countryside management students have different habitats to observe,
monitor and improve, as well as the opportunity to create new
ones.
Students benefit from our first class facilities in rural
resource management, including an estate offering many wildlife
habitats, such as managed woodland, grassland and wetland areas,
all fully accessible to students.
Courses are based at our country estate in Moreton Morrell.
Students have a choice of optional modules ensuring that they are
on track to pursue their chosen career path.
Subjects include:
- ecology
- conservation
- habitat management
- woodland and forestry
- landscape history
- wildlife, fish and game management
Courses take a flexible approach, with both full and part time
study routes available.
Conservation
The college policy is to ensure that the estate is managed in a
way that is sympathetic to the landscape and the
environment.
This includes hedgerow management, protection of in-field trees,
maintenance of woodland fences, and permanent grassland with low
inputs.
The hay meadow, known as Daffodil Meadow, contains a selection
of wild flowers, some of which are very rare.
